Social Distance Learning: Resources for Parents from a Teacher

 

My favorite thing about being a teacher is creating resources for my students! But, I also, admittedly, love creating resources to use at home with B.

I know things are a little crazy right now, so I have a 20% off sale going on for my entire Teachers Pay Teachers store. IT ENDS ON SUNDAY 3/22! I know times are tough, and we’re all doing the best we can as we try to keep our students engaged and “home school” them. I’m still trying to figure out how I’m going to teach AND be a mom to ensure my own child is learning! But it is what it is. I find so much comfort knowing we’re all in the same boat.

I’ve listed a few resources from my store that some parents may find useful during this time of social distancing. Take advantage of some of these while supporting my little local business. 😉

Sight Words

My sight word books are the perfect way to engage your child in common sight words. It includes 4 books. Students are encouraged to illustrate their own books, which also ties in a reading comprehension component.  Each book also includes social emotional questions to foster common social learning.

Grades: Pre-K to 2nd (or any struggling reader)

 

 

I designed this Sight Words velcro activity. It does require some time to set it up, however, you could modify it and just have the kids write in the words rather than using it as a velcro activity. Not only does it help with sight word recognition, but it also helps with comprehension, because they have to understand the sentences to know what word belongs.

Grades: Pre-K to 2nd (or any struggling reader)

 

Reading

Having trouble getting your child to read? Try this FREE BINGO board!. It gives options for reading in unique places.  Use it as a reward system-ie: when a child gets a “Bingo” they have 30 minutes of screen time.

Learning Your Child

If you have a hard time figuring out your child and how they learn best, now might be a good time to figure it out! Try my Multiple Intelligence survey, which was specifically designed to be kid friendly! This will reveal to you how your child learns best so that you can best serve their needs during your homeschooling.

Grades: Kindergarten to 5th
