Scavenger Hunt

Michael, Blake, and I went on a 5 mile hike this past weekend. I knew I was going to need something to keep my active guy engaged (as if running around and walking 5 miles in nature wasn’t enough but I just knew that wasn’t going to cut it) so I started searching for the perfect scavenger hunt, scouring Google and Pinterest. When I couldn’t find one that I liked I simply decided to make one of my own.

I wanted to include the last row as a portion of the hunt that would allow him some creativity to find his own items. He’s always finding and drawing things that Mommy and Daddy would like, so I thought he would enjoy finding things in nature he thought reminded him of us.

I also brought along a stamp pen so he could stamp the items he’d located. He chose to use the yellow one for this activity, the sun.

Other items I brought along with us for B’s entertainment:

  • A magnifying glass
  • an old iPhone for him to take pictures. I think it’s an iPhone 3.

Allowing him to take his own photos was a big hit, until the battery died! Those old phones will hardly hold a battery anymore.

Here are some Blake photo masterpieces. I love how Lamby made an appearance. (Michael took the one of B climbing on the log)

His favorite item he found was the “treasure” item-A Corona bottle cap! (Which also checked the box for his litter item. This was a great way to get him involved in finding trash to pick up and throw away and have the recycle conversation!) He ended up dropping his “treasure” item piece about 3 miles into the walk and was devastated. We couldn’t find it anywhere!

So, we just told him mommy and daddy would help him find more “treasure”.

Guess who gets to have beer tonight?!
